Located on the National Cycle Network, the derelict site was previously an empty space of broken asphalt, mud and litter, yet occupied a prominent position opposite the school at the meeting of key streets. Confusing for visitors, the cycle path stopped before the site and then started again on the opposite side of the road, making it difficult to navigate.

Located on the National Cycle Network, the sculpture draws on the aesthetics of road signage and ground markings, reinventing them to create a colourful and engaging public space. A circle of posts support double-sided artworks symbolising local landmarks and places of interest, whilst a hand-painted ground mural acts as a ‘compass’ to point visitors in their direction.

A hand-painted ground ‘mural’ borrows the visual language of road markings to create a bold and eye-catching display, drawing visitors in and creating a playful space to explore.
